Etihad Guest and STARLUX COSMILE add two-way earning and redemption
Etihad Airways and Taiwan's STARLUX Airlines have expanded the partnership between Etihad Guest and STARLUX COSMILE. From 28 October 2026, members of both programmes can earn and redeem miles on eligible flights operated by either airline, according to Etihad's announcement of 29 October.
The change adds mile earning to an arrangement that until now allowed redemption only by Etihad Guest members. Members can redeem miles for award tickets on partner-operated flights and can request retroactive mileage credit for eligible flights, subject to each programme's terms and conditions. Redemption covers First, Business and Economy cabins.
Etihad Guest Managing Director Mark Potter said every step in the partnership had been about making travel between the two networks more rewarding for members. He said an Etihad Guest member flying with STARLUX now earns miles on that trip and can spend them on their next journey with Etihad, and COSMILE members get the same in reverse.
The expansion builds on the loyalty partnership launched in August 2026. That first phase let Etihad Guest members redeem miles on STARLUX Business and Economy flights only. Centre for Aviation (CAPA) reported the expansion on 29 October 2026.
The loyalty link follows a strategic codeshare agreement that Etihad and STARLUX signed in June 2025, and the launch of Etihad's Abu Dhabi to Taipei service in September 2025. That route is operated by a Boeing 787-9. Trade coverage says these agreements position Abu Dhabi as a gateway between STARLUX's Asia-Pacific network and Etihad's routes across Europe, and Taipei as a key connecting point for Etihad customers travelling across Asia.
One report, from kordinate.world, said COSMILE members gain access to over 120 destinations worldwide via Abu Dhabi. That figure appears in one source only and was not confirmed by Etihad in the material reviewed.

MELA's take: Why it matters for programme teams
The step from redemption-only to reciprocal earning is the usual path for airline partnerships, and it gives both programmes a reason to be used for the whole trip, not just for award bookings. For Gulf programme teams, it shows how a hub carrier builds reach into Asia through staged partner deals rather than one large alliance move. Teams should watch how award availability and mile rates work in practice, as that will decide whether the benefit feels real to members.
